Baklava is probably the most delicious and the most famous Turkish dessert among others which is made of finely layered pastry and contains hazelnuts, peanuts, walnuts or pistachios between layers. Very thick syrup which is prepared with plenty of sugar and water gives the taste of it.
It is one of the oldest traditional desserts of the Turkish cuisine. During the feast of Ramadan and Sacrifice, plenty of Baklava is cooked in almost every household and served to the guests because it is a tradition in Turkey to serve desserts to the people in religious festivals. If you like to taste baklava, you don’t have to visit Turkey in religious festival periods; you can find it even in the smallest patisseries every season. It is made and known in all regions of Turkey but the best ones are coming from the South East region. Gaziantep city which is located in the South East of Turkey is known as the place where baklava is cooked the best.
Baklava is known in Greece also, because Greece was the part of Ottoman Empire and we might say that baklava is a traditional Ottoman kind of dessert. So Greek baklava and Turkish baklava is almost the same but world famous one is the Gaziantep Baklava which is in Turkey. In Gaziantep, Baklava making is a family business from father to son, and the masters of these families are usually in a sympathetic competition for preparing the best Baklava.
