Ataturk - Istanbul City Guide
Ataturk is the founder and first president of the modern Republic of Turkey. He was born in Ottoman city Thessaloniki, in Greece at present, in 1881. Name of Ataturk, meaning the ancestor of Turks, was given to him by Turks as surname; Mustafa Kemal is his full name. He was the greatest achiever among all the world leaders because he modernized Turkish Nation. He was on the cover of Times Magazine in 24 Mar 1923.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk undertook a series of political, social, legal, economic, and cultural reforms for raising Turkey to the level of modern civilizations when he was president for 15 years. He drove Turks to victory against all enemies and Turks took back their motherland piece by piece.

He is the father, savior and mentor of Turks. He brought democracy to Turkey, he created a new nation from ashes, he started the secular system and he changed everything you can imagine, even the alphabet and the traditions to be able to get harmonized by the global world. Women in Turkey had their rights gained much earlier than any other countries in the world by Ataturk.

He died on 10 November 1881 at 9.05am at Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul and his mausoleum called ‘Anitkabir’ is in Ankara (capital of Turkey). Ataturk is still the biggest leader of Turkey and will always stay a hero in the hearts of not only Turkish people but he will always be the leader and the source of inspiration for other nations who struggled for their independence.
