Islam means "surrender" or "submission to the will of God” and it is one of the World’s main religions. It is the Muslim religion of over one billion people who follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammed and worship Allah (Arabic name for God). It is founded under the leadership of the prophet Muhammed. In Turkey, approximately 95 percent of the citizens are Muslims. Islam’s holy book Kuran (Qur'an) is believed to be an exact record of the words revealed by Allah through the Angel Gabriel to Prophet Muhammed.
5 Pillars of Islam:
• Creed (Shahadah): It is the declaration that there is no other god but Allah, and Prophet Muhammed, is the messenger of Allah.
• Prayer: The performance of the five daily prayers is required of Muslims.
• Fasting: The practice of refraining from eating or drinking for a certain period of time. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset during Ramadan.
• Purifying Tax (Zakat): It is an annual payment of a certain percentage of a Muslim's property which is distributed among the poor or other rightful beneficiaries.
• Pilgrimage (Hajj): The performance of pilgrimage to Makkah is required once in a life time if means are available. Makkah is the birthplace of Muhammed and the spiritual center of Islam.
According to Islam and Muslims belief, people are born free of sin; there are unseen creatures such as angels created by God in the universe for special missions; God sent different messengers throughout the history of mankind; People are created equal in front of the Law of God; God is one and the Only One.
